General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is regulated by the FCC and requires a very simple license to transmit on 462 MHz and 467 MHz of the UHF spectrum. The license for GMRS requires NO TESTING, is a simple filing of paperwork online and a $35 fee every ten years to cover yourself and your entire immediate family including in-laws. GMRS radios share their frequencies with the unlicensed Family Radio Service (FRS), but allow for up to 50 Watts of power on specific channels, repeater use, interchangeable antennas, and text messaging on some radios.
